Core Values of A Place Apart A Place Apart's core values are those aspects of our faith and life which bind us together as a community and that allow us to build together. Our covenant to live and work together includes a commitment to live and work within these core values. These Core Values are not meant to be a statement of doctrine, nor do they enumerate all of our concerns and interests. Rather, they describe what is unique about A Place Apart, and what commitments are central to our being. 1. A commitment to total participation in a new way of living, a new way of being fully alive introduced by Jesus Christ, made possible through his life, death, resurrection and ascension and empowered by what became and continues to be a new release of the Holy Spirit. 2. A commitment to developing covenant community within which all types of people can live and work together, for longer and shorter periods of time, to live into the new way of being fully alive which Jesus described as the Kingdom of God. 3. A commitment to developing a new relationship to God's created order, to live daily within the rhythms of that order with an understanding of God's presence within every aspect of creation. 4. A commitment to honoring scripture as the word of God, revealed wholly in the Word made flesh. The gospel message (new life), and the gospel medium (new people), are one. 5. A commitment to Christ-like hospitality and teaching. We are a teaching community, understanding that the daily rhythms of our life together in Christ will be our primary teaching, and that welcoming others into those rhythms will be our means of prophetic witness. 6. A commitment to participate in lifestyles of peace and justice for the sake of the world and for the healing and health of our own souls. We understand that to some extent none of us can be free to be fully alive until all are free to be so. 7. A commitment to periodically examine our individual lives and our life together in light of what we have claimed to be our core values. |
