The cottage is the heart of the lower property. It was built by its previous owners with a keen awareness of its environmental impact, and it now provides lodging and meeting space for the A Place Apart community. A main floor provides a common area, kitchen space, a bath & composting toilet, and access to an outdoor deck overlooking the wooded hillside behind the property. A few steps lead down to an enclosed walkway connecting the cottage to the yurt. Upstairs, two bedrooms provide sleeping space and access to another outdoor deck. The caretaker resides in the basement. The entire lower property, including the cottage, was previously owned by a wilderness expeditions agency. Throughout the cottage, details of woodwork and craftsmanship testify to the values of the previous owners--people who, like A Place Apart, value creation and seek to live within its natural rhythms. |
