The upper property is centered around a converted 12-bedroom New England farmhouse, which serves as the physical "heart" of A Place Apart.  This main house is surrounded by a little over 2 acres of grounds which feature extensive gardens, a labyrinth, a fire circle, swing set, and sheds.  The property is bisected by a dirt road and commands a gorgeous eastward view of the Vermont hills.

The house is jointly owned by Dorothy & Paul Grout and Charlene Galarneau & Don Tucker.  Dorothy & Paul live in a private section of the house, and Charlene & Don have  generously decided to fund the purchase the other half to make it available for A Place Apart's use.   As of early 2008, Marie Rhoades serves as the house's resident hostess.

After renovation were completed in 2007, the house has become a perfect starting point for the emerging community and center for spiritual retreat that is A Place Apart.
